-----As quick as one of Lovan's thunderbolts, Raven launches himself into the creature, taking it backward in his flight. Even before they impact into the platform where the thing rested, Raven's sword has already pierced through the creature's chest with the blade protruding out of its back. The killing blow is already apparent!
-----As the hunter and his prey collide into the platform several loud cracks, as if large bones are breaking, are heard.
-----A cloud of dust rises quickly and then gently begins to settle. As the haze produced subsides, Raven is seen rising up from the foot of the platform, his right forearm and sword covered with a blackish ichor. He continues to stare down at his feet where the thing lies still. Blackish blood, if blood it can be called, pours from a hole punched through the chest area. The thing's eyes now retain a dull gray color and a long black tongue dangles from its jaw.
-----Silence reins for a few moments in the chamber as everyone looks warily and stunned toward the platform area. Seeing that the monster is slain, everyone begins to react.
-----"Damn!" Garrison gasps as the woodsman stands with his jaw agape. He glances back and forth from the ranger to the dead creature.
-----Rinda's glance goes once to the creature sprawled back on its gray wings, before looking awe-struck at Raven. Forgetting herself, her club drops from her hands as she rushes toward him. Taking him in her arms, she begins lovingly kissing his face and hands. Excitedly, she begins tending to the scratch on her love's leg, cooing, "Raven! You are truly the greatest of all hunters!"
-----The wolf sniffs the dead creature growling lowly. It then backs away as it sees the monster is truly slain.
-----The guards begin nervously looking around as if they expect more of the creatures to descend upon them from the dark ceiling or rise up from the stone floor. A few of them occasionally cast uneasy looks toward Raven as he stands calmly where an instant before his attack was effective and violent.
-----Edwin stands a few feet away trying to keep his composure and command over his men. Glancing quickly at Raven, he says, "That was a most effective killing tactic. I would be most thankful if you would instruct me in it."
-----"Was that some kind of demon or devil?" Quade suddenly blurts out in astonishment.
-----"No!" Kantar exclaims with an almost disgusted tone at his colleague's question. "The stone-like texture of its skin! The blending in of true stone work! It was a gargoyle!" Kantar sounds as if he is teaching a lesson.
-----"The horns! The horns!" Ursulena says, jumping up and down with excitement, "Potions of invulnerability and flying!" At the moment, the girl is so excited her sentences come out incomplete and wrapped with emotion.
-----Sol removes his hand from his sword hilt as it become apparent that there is no problem after all. Walking over to Raven, he stoutly claps the hunter's back with his hand commenting, "Very nice." Sol's face quickly flips into its familiar grin and he begins to look around the chamber. Quickly he decides, "I don't think there's anything else down here. We'll have t'continue looking around fer another areas upstairs. There's still a bit unexplored yet."
-----Raven gives Sol a small smile, "What can I say?" Raven motions to the dead creature, "Sometimes the hunter becomes the prey."
-----Raven turns to Edwin and says, "You can't be taught to hold the Hunter's spirit within yourself." With that Raven helps Sol search the room.
-----One of the guardsmen is hastily recruited to liberate the horns from the dead creature. At best, parts of the horns are chopped away before Ursulena grabs up the bits and places them in a pouch.
-----Seeing Sol and Raven leading the others up the stairs, the Seekers and their guards quickly gather themselves to file behind the adventurers.
-----From the top of the stairs, the two groups enter the darkened main hall once again. They do not pause as they pass the bodies of the hobgoblins and the trolls. At the entrance doors, they meet the light of day again from the vine-covered openings to the courtyard. There, the stench is beginning to rise with a noxious smell from the dead lizards.
-----Turning to the right, Sol leads everyone into the next and last corridor of this level. As they look down this hallway, they see a small flight of stairs that Sol had taken after fighting the hobgoblins above on the next level.
-----Just beyond the stairs, the corridor leads past two openings on the right where rooms are located. Toward the far end of the corridor, the ceiling has partially collapsed illuminating this section.
