-----Leaving the Market Gate behind them now, they cross toward the opposite side of the market. Here on the opposite corner is another small shrine. This one resembles a wooden pole with animal shapes carved into it.
-----They turn left onto the street that runs up to the well. On their right, they see a good-sized building, which is an inn. A sign over the door has a picture of a beer mug and a spear on it. Light and the sound of conversation from within indicates the place is busy tonight. Beyond the inn, the other two smaller shops belong to a blacksmith and a cooper. To their left, they pass the seemingly endless stands of empty merchant stalls.
-----Up ahead, the first block ends and a turn to the left would lead past where the thieves had their encounter with Louie earlier. As they pass the inn, they see two people dimly illuminated in the street lantern light to their left. Suddenly one person roughly shoves the other down.
-----As they get closer, they can see the one who is shoved down is a man dressed in raggedy clothing. Under a worn hood, the man’s face appears to be heavily wrinkled and aged. Large staring eyes are set above a hawk-shaped nose and mostly toothless mouth. He begins to yell, "Cheat! Cheat!"
-----The other man is younger wearing fine and frilly clothing and a big floppy hat. He begins to kick at the downed man shouting, "Be still, you ingrate!"
-----As the group comes up close, Seth stares hard at the young man looking for purses or any obvious things of worth that he might be able to pick off the young man.
-----Kazel hesitates a bit at the scene as if she's not sure whether to intervene or not. Then, she walks up to the finely clothed man and holds him back by the arms, separating him from the other man. "Sir, wait, what is the problem here?" She positions herself so that the shadows from the oil lamp masks her movements as she goes for the young man's purse.
-----Seth comes around the other side of the man.
-----Gimplefwick stands by, his hand on his cutlass, waiting to see what happens. He then approaches the man and says, "Good Sir, surely yer not beating on the old and the crippled. What an uncharitable act. I'm of a mind to report you to the city guard."
-----The raggedy clothed man cry at their feet, "Cheat! Cheat! He gives me bad coin! I broke me tooth!" The floppish dandy shakes off Kazel’s hold and he staggers a bit to recover his balance. From his stance and the hint of alcohol on his breath, the thieves can see the young man is a bit tipsy.
-----"You unruly clod! How dare you!" He angrily hisses at the beggar, "I show you a bit of kindness and you have insulted my honor!" As his hand clumsily reaches for his sword, his hand hits Kazel’s. Spinning wobbly, he faces Kazel looking first at her face and then down at her hand. "Here, you," he says surprised, "What’re you trying to do with my purse?"
-----Seth speaks from the other side of the man, "She was just trying to restrain you from going for your sword and doing something silly to that poor old man. Now why would she want your purse when it is obviously full of dud coins? I think we should call the watch! They take a dim view of people trying to pass dud coins!!"
-----"Yea, don't you hurt this man," Kazel says, an indignant look on her face. She wrinkles her nose at the breath of alcohol, backs away and helps the old man sit up. "He's just a poor old soul living around these streets. Now you keep away from him and your sword in your scabbard."
-----"Miserable riff-raff! I wouldn’t give this oaf the satisfaction of dirtying my sword," the inebriated fancy pants says, as he staggers off toward the door of the inn.
-----Sethanales as usual is keen to get away from the scene of the crime, even though this was only a 'potential' crime. He turns to the old man and looks at his face trying to imprint the features. "You owe us I think, old man."
-----With that, he looks at Kazel and Gimplefwick, "Is that not the Inn of the Market Watch?" and then continues on his way up the street.
-----Kazel nods at Seth's question as she glares after the dandy. "I'm putting him on the list after the weapon shop..." She turns to the old man and helps him up. "Be nice to Brad now. We'll see you around."
-----Gimplefwick shrugs and continues up the street, after the others. "Arrrr..ye help me with the weapons shop and I'll be glad to help ye with that scurvy dog."
-----As Kazel catches up to Seth and Gimplefwick she says, "That man was the one at the tavern trading rumours earlier. He says there's a shipment of gold being smuggled here into town 'any day' now, and that there's orcs running about on the outskirts..."
-----She looks at the others to see if they have anything to say about this. "It's just rumours, 'course."
