-----"Krord," the human guard says quietly to the larger human, "let’s guard our new captain." Quickly both guards take positions on each side of Seth.
-----Now with the cheesemaker’s building dark on the inside, the only light is from the moonlight shining in through the high windows near the ceiling.
-----The Dread Pirate glances upwards at the same time as Dalyor warns the party and says, "Hide." He then scuttles back into the shadows cast by the cheese vats, drawing his cutlass and trying to find an especially good nook to hide in.
-----With that everyone takes cover as quickly as they can, avoiding any place dimly lit by the falling moonlight. Everything falls quiet and the silence makes the cheesemaker’s place suddenly feel like a tomb. No noise comes from the ground level outside the building and for a few moments everyone loses sight of each other in the shadows.
-----For a good long time, everything remains silent and nothing appears to move in front of the light coming from the windows.
-----The Dread Pirate stays where he is hidden, listening carefully for any movement coming from the windows.
-----Finally after a long while of silence, the Dread Pirate is heard squelching about angrily. He is then seen clambering out of a reeking pot of cheese. He proceeds to grab a handful of straw and begins wiping the more disgusting clots of muck off of his clothing. He keeps his cutlass in hand, just in case. He then heads over to the others and says, "I think we're just bein' watched til they are all gathered together out there. So we have a few minutes anyway, while they gather and figure out what to do. I think we'd better cover those windows first. We don't need any prying eyes looking in here and seeing our traps and preparations."
-----The Dread Pirate grabs a couple tarps and heads over for the rope, intent on covering the windows, leaving the others to finish the pit or accomplish whatever it is they were working on.
-----The big human then continues his work on the large pit he was digging while the other human guard helps secure the Dread Pirate into a rope harness. Gimplefwick is then lifted aloft and quickly works at covering each window. The rope pulley he is attached to slides easily along a railing secured to the roof. By the time he has finished, Dalyor lights one of the oil lamps so the huge human can see.
-----The Dread Pirate, glad to be back on the ground, utters a sigh of relief. He then glances about for any other ways that the wizards can see inside the warehouse. Not seeing any, he then begins sharpening stakes for the pit and preparing spike traps for the windows.
-----The large human grunts on and off as he labors at the larger pit. His rate of digging speeds up and slows down in spurts as he throws the dirt about.
-----The dwarven guard gets the Dread Pirate’s attention and asks him, "What’s ye be a’thinkin’? Should I be a’workin’ on these doors more?"
-----Marast continues to stand alertly by the side door. Spotting Kazel, he shoots her a questioning glance.
-----The other human guard still stands by Seth. After getting another oil lamp for the half-elven musician, he asks, "Do you mind me asking what is it these wizards are wanting from you?"
-----Seth looks at him strangely. "Well to tell you the truth I am not exactly sure. See the three of us work for a business syndicate in Hearthorn, and we are all leading merchants in our fields. Our syndicate and Dalyor’s syndicate work together. The wizards work for another entirely different syndicate and want to disrupt our business."
-----Seth glances at Kazel for a moment and then decides to say, "They are also religious fanatics and are trying to take over the kingdom in the name of the dark ones. While our syndicate is not religious we do not like having business curtailed. A kingdom ruled by the Dark is not good for business." Seth looks around a bit and looks at some pig fat in his hand. Then to the group as a whole, he adds, "Don't forget you only need to break a wizard’s concentration to stop him casting a spell."
-----The Dread Pirate glances up from his stake sharpening to reply to the dwarf, "Aye, I suppose if ye can do it somewhat quietly, then go ahead. Ye might want to rig up a board or two to keep the doors from collapsin back inside and coverin up the pits. Make sure they can only fall outwards."
-----A few hours later, the large guard has the Dread Pirate’s two pits dug to his specifications. Into the deeper pit, they put the sharpened stakes. Krord turns his nose up whenever the aroma of Gimplefwick’s cheese odor gets too close to him.
-----The Dread Pirate then takes to the rope harness once again and sets about to install his spike traps on the windows. By now, the halfling has gotten the hang of working aloft and soon he resembles a strange looking pixie creature flittering in the air.
