-----Bending down, he gathered up double handfuls of dirt, which he threw onto the flames to suffocate them.
-----“Horses?” Jules sneers with an ugly frown on her face. By now, the horse the second man rode has calmed down and stands a few feet on the opposite side of the road. “I don’t know anything about handling horses!” Regardless, she moves down the incline and carefully approaches the steed and gingerly handles the bridle strap. Seeing that the horse is not doing anything menacingly, she calls up the road, “Here, Horsey, Horsey!”
-----Crane seems to relish his work and he quickly leaps down on the road and trots over to extinguish the corpse. The dwarf almost resembles an eager dog as he goes about shoveling dirt with his hands onto the flaming ‘Graf’. At first Crane appeared to have difficulty getting the fire out.
-----Whisper already has his corpse extinguished and at the man’s belt he found a pouch that contained coins from the sound and weight of it.
-----“Jinx!” Crane snarls as he fails to find anything on the belt of the body he was searching.
-----“Here, Horsey, Horsey!” Jules calls again before straightening with a disgusted look on her face. “I don’t think the horse’s coming back,” she says.
-----Whisper looked up from the horse to look at the girl for a long moment. With a slight shake of his head, he snapped his finger to get Crane's attention. "Go find."
-----Then the Wood Elf straightened, tucking the pouch into his own belt pouch, and glided over to where Jules was holding the horse.
-----With a strange flourish of his hand indicating affirmative, the dwarf trots off down the road in the direction where the horse fled.
-----Jules simply watches with a curious expression as Whisper approaches the horse, immediately going through the saddlebags. If what was inside the bags was any indication, these scouts seemed to have been well supplied! A blanket is found wrapped around some rations, a whetstone, flint and steel, a small mirror and a spyglass (similar to what Jeilin had although not as well maintained). In the other saddlebag is found a fifty feet hemp rope and three torches.
-----Whisper secreted the small mirror in his belt pouch, and the looking glass in his satchel. Such things were slightly hard to come by, even if roughly used. The rest of the gear, he left where it was for now. He rested one hand on the saddle as he thought about how to keep this incident hidden for as long as possible.
-----First, Crane would need to find the horse and return with it. Some branches would wipe away the traces of the fight, and then the two horses could be led to lead a false trail before doubling back to the campsite further down the track.
-----The bodies would need to disappear into the undergrowth, somewhere out of the way. He shifted his gaze to the girl, just looking at her, half testing her with his deadpan scrutiny as he waited for Crane.
-----Jules lets go of the bridle and crosses her arms. She then meets Whisper’s gaze and grumbles, “I never could stand these beasts.”
-----After a good long wait, they finally hear the clopping sounds of a horse walking back toward them. Crane comes into view holding the reins while leading the horse on foot. The dwarf looks out of breath, but a smile stretches across his face. “He’s as gentle a beast as you could hope for,” he says as he approaches.
-----Whisper nods at Crane, and then proceeds to search the saddlebags of the second horse, secreting items of interest about his person. As an afterthought, he brought out the purse of coins he had taken off the dead man, and tossed it casually to the dependable Dwarf.
-----Once the search is completed, the Wood Elf hands both reins to Jules, and then took a look at the two burnt bodies.
-----Within this set of saddle bags, Whisper finds a blanket, some rations, flint and steel, another coil of rope, a lantern and three vials of oil.
-----“Thanks, Boss!” the dwarf exclaims as he looks in the purse Whisper tossed to him. He then looks sheepishly at the wood elf as he realizes what he said. He then smiles and nods at Whisper.
-----“What’s our next plan of action?” Jules asks as Whisper hands her the reins. She snarls as both horses stand in front of her.
-----Whisper then sets about carrying the corpses off into the undergrowth, into the opposite direction of where the campsite is. He lifts one by its belts; disappearing into the vegetation only to return a moment later for the other one.
-----When Whisper returned from completing his grim task, he spent a moment looking over the ground. He casually indicated for the Dwarf to pick up the errant short sword, before looking along both lengths of road with narrowed eyes.
-----Whisper nodded slowly, and then made a shooing motion back towards the campsite at Jules, Crane and the horses. Then the Wood Elf set about concealing even the slight traces of the fight.
