-----Seth, seeing Dread make a bolt for the horses, does the same, at the same time yelling at Runik to mount up and get out.
-----"Oh no, sir," the oldest child is heard to say, and Gimplefwick suddenly finds his way to his pony blocked by the children standing in a line. The expression on the children's faces are strange and somewhat menacing as if resembling wolves watching rabbits.
-----The voice of the older boy is low and calm as he continues, "Surely you aren't going to take this most excellent pony from us. We would like for you to stay a bit longer."
-----The eyes of the coal black pony are wide and almost near the point of panic, but Joren offers no resistance.
-----The Dread Pirate slowly scans the blockade of children standing in front of his pony, then says, "Children, yer about to learn a very valuable lesson in life. That being, don't ever screw with somebody crazier than you."
-----Dread then draws his cutlass and begins purposefully striding towards the blockade.
-----The children make way for the Dread Pirate, though the smallest ones begin to tear up and cry. "Don't worry," says the oldest brother, "they won't get far through the corn." The oldest boy then looks at the Dread Pirate with a calm expression.
-----At that comment, the Dread Pirate halts momentarily and squints his eyes at the corn, seeing nothing unusual, he proceeds to reclaim his pony and the other horses and rejoins Seth and Runik. He then mutters to the two of them, "These children seem terribly confident that we'll run into some sort o' trouble with this corn field. I think we should each light up a torch and carry it with us. If we run into some sort o' trouble, we torch the corn and whatever might be livin in it." The Dread Pirate, ignoring the wailing children, proceeds to light a torch and then commences leading Joren with one hand and carrying the lit torch in the other.
-----The Dread Pirate glances aside at Seth and Runik and feeling thoroughly vindicated, mutters, "There, ye see. Only humans'd kill the local adults and stuff 'em full o' corn husks. Every other race has more productive things to do. But not the humans. Oh no! The humans are all off stuffin their dead parents full o' decayed vegetable matter. A completely strange lot, humans. I'll never understand 'em."
-----The Dread Pirate continues on, leading Joren away from the farmhouse.
-----Seth takes up the reigns of his horse and follows the Dread Pirate, ready at any moment to cast his "get away quick spell!"
-----Runik grabs the reins of his own pony and leads it away toward the fence. The expression on the dwarf's face reads alarm, however, as he stares at the surrounding rows of corn.
-----"These damn plants be growin' outta no wheres!" he finally says as he begins working feverishly to get his own torch lit. The breeze begins to whisper and rustle through the green stalks. Suddenly a large gust of wind comes through the rows quickly extinguishing the torches. The effect momentarily resembles the sudden rush of air as if some giant beyond the rows forcefully exhaled.
-----A few feet away a hurrying is heard among the unrevealing cornrows.
-----"You don't really mean to go and take the horsie from us, do you?" As the rogues turn, they can see that the girl with the blond hair is innocently speaking to them.
-----The Dread Pirate looks in alarm at his blown out torch, then gives a long, flat stare at the surrounding cornfields. He then whispers to Seth and Runik, "Seth, do ye have any fire makin spells? I've kinda got a bad feelin about tryin to just up and take off through the corn. There be somethin out there. Some kinda corn-demon. Probably feelin vengeful about all the ears of corn we've eaten over the years. Apparently it thinks its payback time."
-----The Dread Pirate turns to the little girl when she speaks, and replies, "Little girl, not only do I intend to take MY horsie out of here, I'm aimin to scrag yer little corn-friend hidin out there in the field. Then I'm
goin to slow roast him with some butter and salt." Despite his braggadocio, the Dread Pirate doesn't take a step towards the fence.
-----Seth shakes his head and whispers, "No fire, but I could try and put these kids to sleep."
-----With that he searches in his pouch for some sand, and looking at the children suddenly flicks the sand in their direction hoping they all fall asleep as he incants the spell.
